The FCP 7 Cs- Communication

As part of my course, communication is a key part of what I do.  It seems obvious as it is in the name (fashion communication and promotion), however for me I was say that communication comes in a lot of forms in this course, and this course has helped me more with communication on the outside world.

Before coming to university, I would say I was quite a shy person and I never really went outside my comfort zone when it came to speaking to new people and speaking out when I needed help.  However being at Nottingham Trent university and in particular studding FCP, it has given me the confidence to do this.  A huge part of my course is working in teams to do group projects which we are given across the year.  This is a great opportunity for me to meet new people and communicate my ideas and thoughts to them.  I think that this is great in terms of setting me up for the real world and when I come to getting a job in future, as team work and communication is a great skill to have for this, especially when it comes to job applications and interviews.

Also as part of my course we have to do a lot of presentations which gives me the opportunity to get used to speaking to bigger groups of people than I am used to and sharing my ideas.  At the start of the year I used to hate standing up in front of a group of people and talking however now I do not mind it at all as I have gained a lot of confidence from doing this over and over again.

Another way in which communication is a huge part of my course is to do more with what we directly study and look into.  In a lot of my briefs I have to look into how brands communicate with their consumer and how they do  so, for example in terms of marketing and advertising etc.  I find this part of the course very interesting as I would like to go into marketing or advertising in the future and I love to find out all of the innovative ways in which brands connect and communicate with their consumer.

And finally, from studying this course I have had many opportunities to communicate to a number of different brands and industry experts.  For example we did a Levi’s project which was shown to people from the brand Levi’s and we also did a Dot to Dot presentation where people from this company came to watch and gave us constructive feedback in order to improve.  More recently, we presented our fragrance group work to some industry experts which was a great opportunity to communicate with them.
