Personalisation is the next major trend!!

The art of personalisation is becoming a huge thing for retailers and their consumer nowadays.  Many more shops are introducing personalisation to their products as it is a huge selling point for consumers.  I feel as tho personalised products make the consumer feel more of a relationship towards the brand and it also allows them to have a unique product that no one else owns.  For example lots of brands now have the option to add your initials to their products, especially accessory brands such as jewellery and bags.

As personalisation is becoming a lot more popular as a trend, a lot more retailers are beginning to add this concept to their brands and thinking of unique ways to do this.  Another way of personalisation which is on the rise, is ‘create your own’ produvts where you actually design your own version of their product, instead of it just simply having your initials engraved into something, for example.

If you think about it personalisation is everywhere!  From greetings cards to items of clothing, it is very easy nowadays to get a product that is unique and meaningful to yourself.  However, personalisation does come at a cost.  Personalised items obviously cost more to buy as they cannot be mass produced and are one of a kind and will also take longer to make, however, research shows that 56% of people will happily wait longer for a personalised product.

Last week I was in New York, and i actually saw a lot of examples of brands using personalisation within their stores.  One store which really caught my eye was the Nike flagship store, where they had a whole floor dedicated to personalising and creating your own pair of their famous Air Force 1 trainer.  You could choose to do pretty much anything on the shoe, such as changing the colour of the laces and the holes for the laces, painting/ drawing on the show and changing the colour/pattern of the Nike tick logo.  I loved the idea of this because it means that you will have your very own unique shoe, as obviously a lot of people have the classic Air Force 1 trainers.  Here are some photos that I took in the shop.

Another store which I visited in NYC was the Coach store and this also had an element of personalisation to it.  In this store you could personalise your own bag or shoes with your initials.  You could wither have them engraved or cut out of leather and sewed onto the item.  Here are some photos that I took in the shop.
